LSC Alumni & Current UNC Player, Satara Murray
Nov 29 2012 - LSC Staff
On a late summer evening in September, the UNC Women’s soccer team traveled to College Park to play the University of Maryland. About 15 minutes into the game, Satara Murray heads a ball (with her face vs. her head) and says she heard a 'cracked' sound. She said that her nose is really hurting but continues playing the game. She plays all 90 minutes of the game while in a tremendous amount of pain.
UNC would go onto lose to MD 2-1. The worse for wear players come off the field and go through their cool down routine, and prepare to head back to North Carolina. All the time Satara doesn't let anyone know just how much her nose is hurting. She calls her mother after the game and tells her all this, (and her mom thinks to herself her nose is broken, but didn’t tell Satara this), all she says to her daughter is that she should probably ice it down and see the Trainer.

Austin Soccer Kicks Cancer
Nov 08 2012 - LSC Staff
Thirteen soccer organizations in the Austin area have united in the fight against children’s cancer! These organizations will be donating their facilities and staff members to host the Austin Soccer Kicks Cancer Camp on December 14-16 at two locations, one each in the north and south. All proceeds will go to the Curing Children’s Cancer Fund (www.cccfund.org). The Kick Cancer event will be going on simultaneously in Houston, San Antonio, Lafayette, LA, and Austin. The Kick Cancer effort was created and is spearheaded by Glenn Davis, a former STYSA coaching staff member and long-time Houston-area Director of Coaching. Glenn is now a prominent soccer radio, television, and print personality.
The camp targets players aged 5-13 and will feature technical training, lots of small-and full-sided play, and of course, FUN!
The camp begins on Friday, December 14 from 6-8pm, and continues on Saturday and Sunday; both days from 4-6pm. Registration fee is $55, which includes a camp T-shirt.
