Lonestar Champions 24 Hour Soccer Marathon
Oct 01 2012 - LSC Staff
photo The Lonestar Soccer Club is raising funds for youth soccer programs, including our very own Champions Foundation.  This year, we are partnering with the STYSA organized group, TOPSoccer Program and The East Austin Soccer Club. The purpose of the 24 Hour Soccer Marathon is to raise funds for all three organizations, while also educating our players on the importance of investing in the community and giving to charity.  The benefits and positive effects of playing youth sports, at any level, and leading an active and healthy lifestyle, have never been more evident than in today’s society.

TOP Soccer Program (through STYSA)
TOPSoccer, which stands for The Outreach Program for Soccer, is a community-based training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs.  The program, designed and administered by US Youth Soccer and its volunteer TOPSoccer Committee, provides meaningful learning, development and physical participation opportunities to these young athletes through the game of soccer rather than an emphasis on competition.  TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the US Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, "To foster the physical, mental, and emotional growth and development through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition. Our goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities to develop their physical fitness, technical skills, courage and self-esteem, through the joy and excitement of playing soccer." Learn more about this phenomenal organization by visiting http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/programs/TOPSoccer/.

The East Austin Soccer Club (EASC)
The East Austin Soccer Club is a nonprofit organization established for the youth in our community in our under-served East Austin Area. Their sources of income are limited to player registration, fund-raising activities and sponsorships. Their expenses are all soccer related such as uniforms, officiating fees, field equipment/maintenance and coaching. EASC wants to provide the East Austin youth community the opportunity to participate in youth soccer at all levels of play, including the highest competitive levels of soccer. The EASC coaches are volunteers that dedicate their time to providing their knowledge and skills of soccer to the youth/players. This allows the players to channel their abilities during practices, while developing core values, ethics and principles. For more information, visit www.eastaustinsoccer.com.

Lonestar Champions Foundation (through Lonestar Soccer Club)
The Lonestar Champions Foundation was created with the idea that every child who desires to become a champion has the opportunity for success, not only on the field, but in life as well. Research has proven that children who participate in team sports have lower drop-out rates, lower occurrences of substance abuse, higher grades in the classroom, and higher levels of character development and self esteem than their peers who do not engage in team sports.  The impact of participating in athletics is obvious and important in shaping the youth of our community.

Each year Lonestar SC awards over $140,000 from the LSC Champions Foundation to as many as 300 families so that they are able to participate in youth soccer. None of this is possible without our sponsors and donors. Thank you for your support.
What is the 24 Hour Soccer Marathon event?
This is the one time of year that we ask all of our select teams to come together to help fundraise.  In order to have the biggest impact possible, we encourage participation from each player.

The fundraising period is October 1st – November 9th, followed by our 24 Soccer Marathon, November 17th – 18th. During the marathon event, Lonestar Soccer Club will play soccer continuously for 24 hours, with each LSC team participating for a one (1) hour time slot in a 24-hour-period. Our overnight group will be the ’99 and ‘00 Girls (North & South). These teams will stay from 11 pm - 7 am for the lock-in this year (details to follow). We do realize that many teams may be playing regular season games over marathon weekend and we will do our best to work around game schedules.  Teams are expected to participate in the marathon unless playing and staying out of town.

Fundraising Details:
The fundraising period is October 1st – November 9th and each Lonestar Player is encouraged to raise at least $100 in donations for the event.  Each team has a ‘Team Marathon Coordinator’ for this event; this person is the key contact for questions and club communication during this fundraising period.
To ease the fundraising experience, Lonestar has teamed with FirstGiving.com and created an event webpage, CLICK HERE TO VIEW PAGE. All team names have been pre-entered on this site and each player can join their team name and create their own personalized fundraising page. Set-up is quick and easy and allows players to email their personalized fundraising page link to friends and family, as well as social networks like Facebook and Twitter.  Click Here for Set-up Instructions!  Players will also receive a collection envelope from their coach. Please use the collection envelope for checks, money orders (made payable to Lonestar Champions Foundation) and cash.
