AUSTIN, TX - On Friday, May 5, 2017, Lonestar Soccer Club, the leader in full-service youth soccer operations in Central Texas, added Brian Monaghan to its staff as the Director of Select Soccer Operations.
“What a great day for Lonestar,” said Buck Baccus, Lonestar Soccer Club president. “I’ve known Brian now for close to 15 years. I’ve always had the greatest respect and appreciation for his soccer knowledge, experience, professionalism, passion and commitment to the game. Brian was a part of CCU many years ago, just prior to the formation of Lonestar. It pleases me immensely to welcome him back to our Lonestar family. Brian’s a great fit for us and a perfect add to our formidable leadership team. Welcome Brian!”
Most recently, Monaghan had served as Director of Coaching at Classics Elite in San Antonio, TX. During his tenure in San Antonio, CE experienced success on and off the field. Team success at the state and regional level, player development at all ages, and facility development are just a few of the outcomes that can be attributed to Monaghan.
His playing and coaching resumes compliment each other. From signing with Everton FC at age 16 and playing professionally in England, Australia and the United States to working with youth national teams and assisting at MLS combines, Monaghan’s experience will add to an already qualified and dedicated staff.
“I am delighted that Brian will join our leadership team at Lonestar. He is a nationally renowned as an outstanding soccer leader and coach. Brian, over many years of successful coaching, has built a vast soccer network at the youth, collegiate, and professional levels of play. Lonestar Soccer Club Partners with APPA Aguilas in City of Kyle Alliance
Kyle, TX - On Friday, May 5, 2017, Lonestar Soccer Club (LSC) and APPA Aguilas (APPA) announced a strategic alignment to expand the growth of soccer at all levels in southern Travis County and Hays County. The announcement came after extensive discussions between LSC leadership and Sonny Guadarrama, Director of APPA, and Sylvia Gallo, a founder at the grassroots level of APPA.
“Sonny is quite simply an outstanding young man. He’s known as one of the best youth players ever to compete in Central Texas. Sonny took his game to the college ranks and on to a very successful career in the professional leagues of Mexico. Following his playing days, Sonny came home and in short order developed an outstanding club in the area of Kyle and Buda, “ stated Buck Baccus, LSC President. “Given Sonny’s association with top level soccer as a youth player and his long standing relationships with a number of our staff members, it was natural for Sonny to join forces with Lonestar. We are lucky to add someone of Sonny’s caliber to our staff and believe he has unlimited potential to grow within our organization. As for his good works in the surrounding areas of Kyle and Buda, Lonestar will work tirelessly to further the game of soccer and create a growing number of opportunities for his players. Thank you Sonny!”
Recreational, Jr. Academy, and Select programs will be the main focus of the partnership. The model of shared resources will continue to build upon the solid administrative and management foundation that has put APPA on the Central Texas Map. One key resource has been the municipality support that has been evident in the area.
"The City of Kyle is incredibly pleased with the success of APPA Aguilas over the past two seasons. We are amazed at the level of participation from the community and the quality of organization that APPA has brought to Kyle, “ added Scott Sellers , City Manager for the City of Kyle. “Combining APPA with the strength, ubiquity and quality of Lonestar Soccer is an incredible victory for Kyle and for our region. We are beyond excited to witness the evolution of soccer in Kyle in such a short time frame, and look forward to working together with APPA and Lonestar with the best years still ahead of us."
Guadarrama commented: “I am truly excited to join forces with the club that saw me grow as a player, and helped me to achieve my dreams. I now look forward to helping the next generation of future soccer players in Austin together with Lonestar SC. Greater things are yet to come!”
Known as the leader in full-service youth soccer operations in Central Texas, LSC has a simple vision to bring its brand of soccer to every part of Central Texas - this includes South Austin to Kyle. The foundation laid by APPA in this geographic region acts as a springboard for this partnership to continue to grow as an integral location for soccer development.

Top 5 Reasons Lonestar SC Chose the Girls' Development Academy (DA):
#1 - Player Centric Model
The DA is a player centric model, focused on individual player development (opposed to a league built on a business model). This elite training environment promotes increased technical standards & allows for greater accountability for the players & coaches.
#2 - Highest Level of Play/Training
By participating in the DA, a player will have significantly more hours on the training field focused on refining technique & tactical understanding. Additionally, the DA will host the best clubs & players in the U.S. creating the highest level of competition. U.S. Soccer only admitted clubs who met its specific high set of standards - over 200 clubs submitted applications to the DA, but only 69 clubs will compete in the 2017-18 season making it the most selective program in the country.
#3 - Professionalized Coaching, Minimum License Standards & Continuing Education
One of the criteria used by the U.S. Soccer Development Academy in the selection process of choosing its members was the Leadership in the Club & Quality of the Coaching Staff. The DA will be the first & only girls' national program to professionalize coaching license standards as well as provide a pathway for continuous education. U.S. Soccer Technical Staff (Technical Advisors) will provide regular communication to our coaches and Directors based on feedback from visits to our club & game evaluations. LSC players will benefit on the field as a reflection from coaches vesting in their profession on an annual basis.
#4 - Ten Month Competition Schedule
The DA provides a consistent ten-month schedule without any interruption of the high school season. LSC supports this initiative for the elite player because it creates a consistent training schedule with proper rest & recovery between each match.
#5 - Addition of More Age Groups
Originally, the DA only included 3 age groups but has recently expanded to the U14 age group with ongoing conversations of additional age groups in the future.
