Sade Adamolekun, a member of the Lonestar U14 (00) ECNL team, has received an invitation to participate in the U.S. U15 National Team camp to be held April 19 – 26 in Carson, CA. Sade has 9 goals and 4 assists so far this season with her 00 ECNL team that currently sit undefeated atop of the Texas Conference.

Sade recently showcased her talents at the ECNL Dallas National Event after U.S Soccer Officials requested to ECNL coach Darren Warham to see her play. She didn’t disappoint them playing 2 games with the Lonestar 97 (U17) team and scoring 2 goals in the 3-0 win over the Colorado Storm.

Don Cameron, Executive Director of Select Soccer, had this to say: “I am delighted to hear of this great opportunity for Sade.  To be selected for a National Camp two years up is an outstanding achievement. I have known Sade since she was a young girl in the club and she has an outstanding skill set and work ethic. I am sure she will make the most of this opportunity. Sade will be a great ambassador at the National Camp for all the outstanding female soccer players at Lonestar Soccer Club.”

Acevedo could fill in for Morgan
Mar 14 2014 - Jeny Mather

National Women’s Soccer League preseason officially began for all nine clubs on Monday, and the kickoff to the 2014 season is now just a month away. The Thorns continue to operate without the services of U.S. striker Alex Morgan, who has considerable recovery left — there is not even a timetable — on a stress reaction in her left ankle. So with Danielle Foxhoven shipped north to Seattle this offseason, who could fill in alongside Christine Sinclair in the interim?

Mexico forward and former Lonestar player Jackie Acevedo could have her opportunity, the Oregonian’s Jamie Goldberg reports.

“I love her,” Thorns coach Paul Riley said of Acevedo. “I hadn’t seen much of her, just game tape. But just to see her with our kids – she’s good, she’s sharp, she’s got a good brain on her, she moves well off the ball and she’s crafty around the net.”

Congratulations to our ECNL players selected for the Texas ECNL Player Development Program
Mar 11 2014 - Louise Swain

The Elite Clubs National League has released the roster for its upcoming Texas ECNL PDP (Player Development Program) being held at Toyota Park, in Frisco, on March 8-9, 2014. Player selections are made based on individual performance in all ECNL competitions as well as by ECNL staff coach recommendations. Final rosters and selections are then formed by ECNL PDP Director Sean Nahas and other non-affiliated ECNL National Staff members.

Lonestar  players attending the PDP include:

Katie Uhler: Lonestar 96 ECNL/ Notre Dame

Patricia Fernandez: Lonestar 97 ECNL/ West Virginia

Katie Glenn: Lonestar 97 ECNL/ University of Texas

Claudette Lassandro: Lonestar 97 ECNL/ Texas A&M University

Nakia Graham: Lonestar 98 ECNL/ University of Texas

Emily Strouphauer: Lonestar 99 ECNL/ US U15 National Team Player

A seventh and eighth Lonestar Player was also selected (Chrissy Pitre and Mikaela Harvey) but was unable to attend.

Player Development Programs (PDPs) are regionally-based identification and development programs within US Club Soccer’s id2 Program with three primary goals:

(i) Provide the top players within specified elite leagues with an opportunity to be identified and evaluated for higher levels of play
(ii) Provide a high quality developmental experience
(iii) Recognize and reward individual performance and achievement.

The ECNL PDP in Dallas will include a training session and two 11 vs. 11 games for each player. Top players from each ECNL PDP, along with other players scouted in ECNL competition throughout the year, will be considered for invitations to the ECNL / id2 National Training Camp in August and potential inclusion in US Youth National Team training camps.

The ECNL will be hosting nine PDP events across the country between February and May 2014, providing an opportunity for top players in every ECNL club. There are no player costs for participation and the ECNL covers all staffing, facility rental and equipment costs for each event. The only responsibility for participating players will be the cost of travel and accommodation (if necessary).

About Elite Clubs National League:  The Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) was founded in 2009 to enhance the developmental experience of female youth soccer players in the United States through: (i) Improving the competitive environment through creation of a true national competitive league; (ii) Improving the process for identifying elite female soccer players for the U.S. Soccer youth national teams through a systematic scouting and identification program based on national competitions; and (iii) improving the daily training environment at top female youth soccer clubs through developing best practices and training and organizational guidelines for its member clubs.  The ECNL is sanctioned by US Club Soccer and is sponsored by Nike Soccer.  The Army National Guard is the official military branch of the ECNL.

Thorns FC add LSC Alum and Mexico Nat'l Team striker Jackie Acevedo
Feb 26 2014 - Jeny Mather
photo

The former '87 Lonestar SC forward Jackie Acevedo moves up from the Houston Aces to the NWSL after earning her first Mexican cap in November. The NWSL revealed its national federation allocation list for the 2014 season and in Portland, where the Thorns are holders of the league's inaugural championship, only one change came through the allocation process - Jackie Acevedo, a 5'1" Mexican-born forward from Austin, Texas has been added to the Thorns' roster through the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).

Acevedo, 26, an impact player for the Houston Aces of the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) in 2013, Acevedo ranked among the league’s scoring leaders with five goals and four assists in nine league appearances and earning All-WPSL Team honors. Her assist total was tied for third-best in the league. Acevedo helped the Aces to a 12-1-0 (36pts) record, capturing both the division and conference titles as the team reached the WPSL Championship match, and she scored the team’s lone goal in the final.

Brilliant work Jackie, best of wishes to you in Portland!

We at Lonestar SC would like to congratulate one of our coaches - Zack Pope on being appointed Assistant Coach at the Austin Aztexs. Zack will continue to coach for LSC whilst in this role and we wish him the best of luck.

Read the official Press Release below for more information:

AUSTIN, Texas (February 10, 2014)  —  Austin Aztex Head Coach Manuel Buentello has named Zack Pope as assistant coach of the reigning USL PDL Champions as they look to defend their title in the 2014 season.

"I am very pleased to be working with Zack," Aztex Head Coach Manuel Buentello said. "He thoroughly understands the goals of the organization and what it takes to achieve them. Zack has been involved with the Aztex since the beginning and he is intimately linked to its success. He has represented the organization very well during his time as a player."

Pope, 27, was the team captain for the Austin Aztex and appeared in 32 games during their previous two seasons. Playing as a defender, Pope helped the Aztex stand among the league leaders in fewest goals allowed through both seasons.

"Zack was not only the captain of the team, but also a leader off the field,” Buentello said. “Through his hard work and dedication, he earned respect from both his teammates and the coaching staff.”

“We are Austin's team and I was looking for the perfect candidate that could represent the Aztex's heart and soul. With the success we achieved on the field last season, I felt it important to keep the same continuity.  After looking at a long list of possible candidates, I was delighted to hear of Zack's interest in moving his career in a new direction.  He is a product of Austin and has been a constant in Austin's soccer scene from his early beginnings as a successful local youth player to playing for the PDL National Championship team in our city.”

Pope has an extensive history of playing soccer in the Austin area. Pope attended Stony Point High School in Round Rock and played collegiately at Duke University, where he graduated with a psychology degree and a minor in sociology.

Pope was drafted 40
th overall in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft by the Chicago Fire and appeared in reserve games for the Fire and FC Dallas. In 2009, Pope made seven appearances for the Austin Aztex USL1 team.

Pope gained coaching experience as an assistant coach with Southwestern University men’s soccer team, Stony Point High School’s boys varsity team, and head coach of St. Andrew’s Episcopal School’s girls varsity soccer team. Pope served as trainer and technical director of Cen Tex Soccer Training from 2008 to 2010 and is the owner of Acurix Elite Performance Training. In addition, Pope serves as staff coach for Lonestar Soccer Club, with whom he will continue to coach.

“It is an honor to be able to continue my relationship with the Aztex organization and I look forward to being part of its growing success,” Pope said. “There's no better way I can think of making my transition to the other side of the game than to be here with Austin’s team. It means a lot that Manuel and the Aztex front office believe in me and provided this opportunity to continue with the organization on a new career path. That's what the Aztex are all about.”

Returning members of the Aztex coaching staff include Assistant Coach Ben Crawley and Goalkeeper Coach Ric Granryd.

The Aztex return to the field in 2014 to begin their title defense when they host the Houston Dutch Lions on May 10 at House Park. The Aztex will conduct their final try outs
with the Collegiate Trial on Saturday, March 15 and the Open/Community Trial on Sunday, March 16.

PRESS RELEASE FROM U.S. SOCCER:

MANISA, Turkey (Jan. 21, 2014) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team continued its sterling start at the 2014 Aegean Cup by defeating Norway 5-2 on Tuesday to book its place in the tournament’s championship match.

The USA (2-0-0; 6pts) sits atop Group B and will play Scotland on Thursday before advancing to the tournament championship on Saturday. With France and Scotland drawing 1-1, neither team can catch the USA on points. Should the USA lose to Scotland and Norway beat France on Thursday, bringing the Americans and Scandinavians even on points, the USA will still go through as the top team in Group B by virtue of beating Norway head-to-head.

The USA’s victory against Norway was secured with three unanswered goals early in the second half, after the two teams went in to half time tied at 2-2. U.S. captain Alexis Velela scored the winning goal seven minutes after the restart, and Christian Pulisic added another three minutes later to give the USA some breathing room. Pulisic’s strike was his third goal in as many games dating back to the USA’s final match against Brazil at the Nike International Friendlies in December.

Nicholas Taitague, a call up from the U-15 Boys’ National Team, capped the proceedings after coming on as a second-half sub with his first international goal for the U.S. U-17 MNT in the 58th minute.

In the first half, forward Elijah Rice started off a late barrage of goals when he opened his U-17 account in the 21st minute. However, a pair of strikes from Norway’s John Hou Saeter and Sander Berge saw the match tilt in favor of the Scandinavians with five minutes remaining until the break.

The USA evened matters in the final minute of the half through newcomer McKinzie Gaines, who was just added to U.S. Soccer’s Residency Program this semester. After playing 11 minutes in the team’s 2-1 win against France on Monday, Gaines seized his opportunity to haul the U.S. level by scoring his first international goal in his first start with the U.S. U-17 National Team.

Brilliant work McKinze!

Lonestar Soccer Club alumni are about to dive into the world of professional soccer, as three former players were selected in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft.

We would like to wish these players luck in their new challenge at the professional level! We Are Lonestar!
