Jan 18 2007 - Staff
Several players from the Lonestar Soccer Club and Lonestar Academy at St. Stephen’s will be traveling across the border to San Francisco del Rincon, Mexico Feb. 8-12, 2007 to take part in a series of matches involving the U-20 Mexican National team, the Guanajuato State Select team, and two teams comprised of both Academy and Lonestar Soccer Club players.
These games are a continuance of the relationship between the Lonestar Academy at St. Stephen’s and the Mexican Football Federation. The Academy has played host to the full women’s team from Mexico in preparations for Olympic qualifying in the past, and they have reciprocated by inviting our teams to come to Mexico.
The games will be held in the small city of San Francisco del Rincon Feb. 8-12 where city officials will host an opening ceremony for all teams involved.
Bobby Murphy, Director of the Lonestar Academy commented, “This is a tremendous opportunity for all of the girls…playing against top opposition in a foreign country is something that not many young women get to experience.”
“This trip is just one example of how our new partnership with the Academy makes us one of the top clubs in the country,” said Dave “Smitty” Smith, Girls Director of Coaching at Lonestar Soccer.
