The time to begin fundraising for the 24 Hour Soccer Marathon has arrived. We have been discussing it briefly with you for the past few months, and we now have details ironed out and are ready to move forward.

Please read through this thoroughly as it contains details and answers that you will need to know as a Lonestar Player, Parent, Team Manager, or Coach. We are offering an online fundraising option for the players this year in hopes of widespread participation, along with three amazing prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

What is the 24 Hour Soccer Marathon?

The 24 Hour Soccer Marathon is a community service project in which we are asking our players to go out into the community and raise pledges for the marathon. We also offer an option for players to set up a personalized online donation webpage, new this year, where they can email a link to all family and friends and have them donate online.

We are not asking the parents of the club to donate money to this event, but for our players to raise money from outside of the club. This is the time of year where our club can come together and give back to the community, and we encourage participation from each player in order to have the biggest impact possible.

The Soccer Marathon itself will be held on November 13-14, 2009 from 5pm-5pm. As a club we will play soccer for 24 hours, although each team will only be asked to be there for a one hour timeblock. There will however be a group of players, 97 Boys teams, who are doing the lock in this year and will be locked in from 11pm-7am. (details to follow). We do realize that many teams will be playing regular season games that weekend, and we will work around those schedules. Teams will still be expected to participate in the marathon unless the teams are travelling out of town.

Where and when is the event?
November 13th 5pm – November 14th 5pm
Soccer Zone North off of Hwy 1431 in Cedar Park

Where do the Proceeds Go?

The monies raised will be split 50/50 between the Miracle League of Austin and the Champions Foundation at LSC, unless otherwise noted by the donor.  The Champions Foundation was established in May 2006 and every cent of the money raised by the foundation provides financial aid for qualified families in our club to be able to play with Lonestars. Each year we have over 180 players who qualify for some amount of financial aid totaling over $120,000. These awards are based on economic needs and federal poverty guidelines, and not on talent. Financial aid is based on strict guidelines and is granted to players at every level in the club.

Each Lonestar Player is encouraged to raise at least $100 in pledges for the event. Fundraising club-wide begins the week of September 28, 2009!  Each player will receive a collection envelope from their team manager, and will also receive instructions on how they can raise donations online and still be recognized for raising the money.  All checks should be made payable to the Lonestar Champions Foundation. Fundraising will conclude on November 6. All envelopes should be turned into the team manager who will then deliver to Frost Bank on Pecan Park Blvd.

All players who received financial aid this year are required to raise at least $200 as a part of their commitment and financial aid award.
