Welcome to the Austin Labor Day Cup Referee page. In its 6th year, the ALDC continues to grow and improve its delivery of service to referees over the 3 day event.

As always, out of town referees (minimum 60 miles) working at least 2 days of the tournament are eligible for ‘gratis’ hotel rooms.

Again this year:

As in the past:
…..a special guest speaker headlines the Friday night mandatory meeting.
…..developmental assessments will be offered along with a limited number of full assessments for upgrades available in the full-length semis or finals matches.
……plenty of “groceries” (food and other sustenance….EXCEPT DONUTS!!!) will be provided at all of the venues.

GUEST SPEAKERS - Jair Marrufu & Gil Weber
Austin Labor Day Cup Lands Newest FIFA Referee!

Jair Marrufo

Jair Marrufu
Marrufo has been a member of U.S. Soccer since 1996 and a Major League Soccer referee since 2002. He is one of four officials hired full-time in early 2007 as part of U.S. Soccer’s new program designed to enhance high-level performance, training and development opportunities for the sport’s elite officials in the United States.

The son of former FIFA Referee Antonio Marrufo of Mexico, the younger Marrufo decided to become a referee after his father took him to a tournament and he was able to watch other top referees work when he was in his late teens.

Fluent in English and Spanish, Marrufo is a graduate of Del Valle High School where he played soccer, football and basketball before going on to the University of Texas-El Paso. Prior to joining U.S. Soccer full time, Marrufo worked as a product specialist with Sherwin-Williams. Marrufo has played soccer at both the youth and international levels.

Marrufo was appointed as a FIFA referee in 2007 and as of the end of February was still awaiting his first international assignment. His previous major assignments include the 2006 MLS Cup and the 2006 Ballymena International Tournament in Northern Ireland.
